Introducing Our Bands for 2026:
Gabba Zappa Hey!
Gabba Zappa Hey! are: Graham 'no E in' Davis (guitar & lead vox); Did 'not Dom' Dilley (drums & vox); and Serge 'so F in' Wilde (bass & vox).
A London-based high-energy tribute act that reimagines Frank’s complex compositions in a punk-rock stylee, initially created by the band Mint Douche in 2016 for what they thought was a one-off gig at Mike Fox's yearly Zappadan celebrations in a sports pavilion in Acton.
Since then, Gabba Zappa Hey! have played Mosae Zappa (2017), Zappanale (2018), a bunch more Zappadan Zappajams and MOO-AH (2019) in stripped-down form as Gabba Zappa Busk!; we are very happy, if a little confused, as to why they have agreed to come back this year.
They have released two albums you can download for nowt: Hey Punk (2017) and And If You Don't Like It You Can F**k Off (2018). You can also hear their version of Masked Grandma on the Idiot-compiled album Lost Meat: 100% Zappa Rareness (Cordelia Records, 2019). (You can listen to all of Graham & GZH's contributions to Cordelia's Zappa-themed albums in the Spotify playlist.)
In 2019, Ben Watson's AMM All-Stars performed the whole of Lumpy Gravy live at Zappanale, with Graham as musical director. Graham further "edited, fluffed up and prodded about" the dried muffin remnants for CD release (which Co de Kloet described as, "Like cleaning up an old painting by Rembrandt!"). Listen to King Kong, excerpted from it here. Mint Douche, featuring Graham & Did and other notables, followed this up by recording a live version of the whole of Burnt Weeny Sandwich.
At MOO-AH, expect to hear fast-paced Zappa with the raw energy of The Ramones, The Stranglers, The Clash and early Sheena Easton, mixed with a healthy dollop of SHUT THE F@%K UP!
